We are Silvia from Italy (architect & Yoga teacher) and Robbert from Holland (marketing consultant & Reiki master). After living in New York and Amsterdam for decades we realized that we want to live close to nature and inspire people with meaningful activities. Long explorations brought us to Otranto to start Orto Dell'Idro in 2017.
WE ARE IN OTRANTO, THE SOUTH EAST OF PUGLIA
Otranto is located in Salento, the south part of Puglia and tip of the heel of the Italian boot. This fascinating area full of olive orchards and prickly pears is also rich of ancient traditions, cultural events, and pristine natural beauty. You'll find our orto in Valle dell'Idro, the green valley just 5 minutes walk from Otranto's center and the Mediterranean Sea. All close to the baroque city of Lecce and Brindisi airport.
Salento offers beautiful diverse nature ranging from ancient caves, sandy and rocky beaches with crystal clear water, and lakes with unique wildlife. The landscape is pierced with pajare, ancient rural buildings, and tons of little medieval towns with castles and palaces, where cultural events are often organized to honor the local delicious cuisine and the fun traditional dance called 'pizzica' that bring the communities together.
OUR FIRST YEAR
Here is a short video with a summary of our project's first year. With lots of work, challenges, activities and joy.
